Challenge & Background
Due to the end-of-support for the existing hosting infrastructure, legacy file shares needed to be fully migrated to Microsoft SharePoint without data loss. The goal was an automated, structured migration of the entire folder hierarchy including access permissions. Key challenges included proactively detecting incompatibilities (e.g., URL conflicts caused by special characters or path lengths) and ensuring complete data integrity during active operations.

Executed tree-view analyses using custom Python scripts to identify critical path lengths and invalid file names (URL conflicts) prior to migration.
Automated Transfer via SharePoint API
Developed migration scripts leveraging the SharePoint REST/Graph API for structured data transmission and permission mapping.

Generated and validated file hashes pre- and post-transfer to guarantee 100% data consistency and integrity across target destinations.

Implemented a two-pass synchronization approach to capture and update files modified by users during the active migration phase.
